Alexander McQueen will be joining the ever-expanding lineup of high-end designers on Melrose Avenue when the British designer opens his first Los Angeles store later this month.

The Los Angeles store is McQueen’s third store in the United States. The 3,100- square-foot boutique was conceptualized by McQueen and designed by Will Russell of Pentagram . Located on the high-profile corner of Melrose Avenue and Melrose Place, the store will house the Alexander McQueen womenswear, menswear, accessories and eyewear collections. “I am excited about the opportunity of being more accessible to a community that will clearly understand and appreciate the glamour in my work. It’s a natural fit in that respect,” McQueen said in a prepared statement.

The highly conceptual, refined atmosphere of the Los Angeles store reflects the innovative craftsmanship of McQueen’s work. Like other flagship stores, the boutique “shares a theatrical quality with the collection and shows,” according to the company. High curving ceilings and a combination of natural, fluorescent and tungsten lighting illuminates the interior with a glowing effect. Similar to the London and Milan stores, the Los Angeles store is designed as a clean, modern space with organic displays in stark white. The store also features a nine-foot metal sculpture of a male form called “Angel of the Americas,” designed by British artist Robert Bryce Muir. — N. Jayne Seward
