Just when you thought Gabby Douglas had achieved maximum rockstar status, she has managed to soar to new heights of coolness with her response to people who have been criticizing her hair.
Apparently, as you may have heard, some sad souls have been focusing not so much on Gabby's mind-bending athleticism but on her hairstyle, taking to Twitter to critique it. I mean, we're all for overanalyzing a ponytail (let's face it, it's kind of all we do around here), but many of these comments were just plain mean-spirited and insensitive. Don't feel bad for Gabby, though--her response was just as confident and spectacular (yet effortless-seeming) as her average Olympic performance.
"I don't know where this is coming from. What's wrong with my hair?" said Gabby, who competes wearing pretty much what you'd expect on any serious athlete: a practical slicked/clipped-back ponytail or bun. "Nothing is going to change," she said, adding that to focus on her hair right now is "stupid" and "crazy". "I'm going to wear my hair like this during beam and bar finals. You might as well just stop talking about it."
YES. You tell 'em, Gabs! Doesn't this just make you crush on her a little bit more, even though you wouldn't have thought that was possible? What a fantastic role model for young women out there. She totally shut the haters down. *I love it.*Meanwhile, on her new blog Beautycism, our sometime Girl in the Beauty Department Baze points out one aspect of Gabby Douglas' looks that really does deserve the media attention it has gotten.
